Become an MMS ambassador, a solidarity hike at the heart of our projects.

Solidarity hiking in Kivu
*Want to do a solidarity hike for Kivu but in Belgium? It's possible, and we explain everything here.

Idjwi stands out from all other territories because it is entirely isolated by water. This territory therefore remains the only internal island of the DRC.

Thus, unlike other territories accessible by road, Idjwi can only be accessed by lake.

Apart from the conflicts, Idjwi has not experienced mass violence since the mid-1990s, and it remains largely untouched by the many current conflicts raging in North Kivu.

Solidarity hikers on Idjwi Island: By joining us,

These are all the projects that you support!

Every hiker is a partner, every step on the soil of Idjwi is a helping hand.

This first MMS trip will, we hope, be one of our important sources of funding.

But above all, they are an opportunity to share our ideal. On foot, you discover the country, you discover its inhabitants.

From village to village, we see, we talk, we understand. We sense the difficulties, we glimpse the successes. Walking, we pass everywhere. At times, we will stop on top of a hill, among the children, in a bakery run by a group of women, at the
at the foot of a health center.

At other times we will be on the water
to admire the island in all its splendor!

On foot, we meet people and we fall in love.

“Discoveries, surprising pilot projects, friendship, the
minor sufferings, exchanges of views, reflections, laughter
and games, all the ingredients for a successful stay."

7 days of solidarity and discovery

As you will have understood, this trip is first and foremost an act of solidarity towards the poorest, in particular towards the midwives that MMS has been supporting for 4 years. You are becoming true ambassadors for MMS.

You'll travel by bus from Kigali to Bukavu in the DRC. Our partner will meet you, and you'll take a boat to Idjwi on Lake Kivu. Once there, you'll get around on foot, except for a few long stretches along steep tracks, which will be covered by minibus.

Discover our projects:

You travel between them on foot, by dugout canoe, or by minibus. Each time, you'll be guided by our field team. You'll meet the local people and become a partner in their development simply by visiting them.

MMS Ambassadors

There is a before, a during, but there will also be an "after" challenge! How can we realize our role as ambassadors and encourage other donors to support MMS's actions?

This incredible experience of humanitarian work, this sporting challenge that can be enjoyed by everyone, and this unforgettable tourist discovery are to be shared with others, because no one returns from this trip unscathed!

Your carbon footprint

We will commit to using the equivalent of
your carbon footprint in a local program that fights climate change.

In Idjwi, deforestation is a real scourge, forcing families to cultivate increasingly smaller plots of land. Planting trees is how we will help the local population fight against the extreme poverty that plagues Idjwi.

Do you want to do a solidarity hike without going to Kivu? It's possible!

1. Define a location, a distance, and a fundraising goal.

2. We help you promote your event to those around you

3. All that's left to do is put on your walking shoes and head out onto the trails in support of our projects in Kivu.
